My partner and I are a same-sex couple, multi-racial, and have attended this church for over three years now. This was the only church we could find that fit our view of faith, scripture, and liberal beliefs. From the very beginning, everyone was welcoming and inclusive of us, even when we wanted to help with the children's ministry and lead worship. Of course, that's how it should be, but few churches are willing to take that step and be different, standing behind LGBT people and supporting them. Our pastor even got calls from his higher-ups, curious about our involvement in the church, but he has been open and willing to stand along side us and enter into conversation with people about his beliefs and interpretation of scripture.
I could say a lot more that would completely negate the previous bad review, but I feel no need to be so defensive of something that I know to be good. It's definitely not perfect, but thats because the Church is made up of people, and people are always a work in progress. This is one of the most sincere, transparent and genuine faith communities I have been a part of.Added May 30, 2017 by Elise Hom - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
I love this community because although not everyone agrees we still strive to love each other and serve Jesus as a body. I love that all people are welcome and encouraged to serve. I love that weekly we pray for any needs in the community. I love that monthly we serve the community instead of have a church service. I am grateful for the people here and the support they have given me.

This is a great community and very accepting, but only IF you are:
1. White
2. Straight
3. Married
4. Have kids
5. Upper-middle class
6. Attractive and thin
7. Well dressed
8. Look like a family on the WB. (Seriously, just look at the facebook page)
Also, you need to have gone to highschool with and/or known everyone for 15 years to be in the "cool group." Why does it matter if you are in the inner circle? They plan everything and decide who is invited.
For example, the head Pastor's wife has an INVITE ONLY bible study with the inner circle wives, and then there is a separate (but equal?) bible study for everyone else who isn't cool enough to be invited to the secret bible study. They think this is all secret, but absolutely everyone knows about it going on and just doesn't say anything. If you aren't invited, then you get to go to the other group. The over flow group. The reject group. The one that the pastor's and their wive's don't even attend.
So basically, if you are looking for a new church to sit in on Sunday and never develop any real relationships or get included in social activities, then this is the church for you!
However, this is probably not the best place to try if you are:
1. LGBT
2. Not white
3. Poor
4. Ugly / fat
5. Not dressed like a Portland hipster.
6. Live more than 5 minutes from the church
7. Have not been friends with the pastors and their circle of friends for the last 10 years.
I realize that everyone who is inside the group will be all upset and butthurt about this review and saying how it's a lie. But really, that is what everyone in an elitist clique says about people outside their group.
That's why people like elitist groups. It makes us feel all warm and superior and then when anyone raises issue, there is a whole group of people to cut them down and say how crazy they are. But having a group of people all yelling the same thing doesn't make it any more true.Added February 10, 2017 by Truth Teller
