I contacted the " Rabbi " concerning peloni almoni's comments to see if the accusation are true. We have looking to relocate and have thought about Portland and wanted to know more about the community. We are retired and live a quite life and have no desire to be involved with contoversy, so I wanted to check and see if this persons experience was typical or an isolated event. Judging by the lack of response, and the number of supporters, it seems this is just an indicator of a larger problem. If we are expecting to present Hashem to the world in a way that encourages support, this isn’t the way to do it.

it has been 10 months since i was accosted on a Shabbos morning while trying to attend Krias Torah, and none of the people who prevented me from entering have made an attempt to apologize. Joseph Katz and two obese men stopped my when i tried to enter the shul and demanded my name. being somewhat taken aback, i stated my name was "peloni almoni", and made my way to the rest-room. Mr Katz followed me to the lavatory, and when i exited, he once again demanded my name and informed me he was working security. i asked "why a jew is working on Shabbos". he became agitated and ushered me to the door, where the two obese men joined in his assault. they all proceeded to harass me and call me names. they then threatened to call the police if i didn't tell them my name. so much for a 'friendly and welcoming' congregation. needless to say this was completely uncalled for as i was dressed in Shabbos Clothes and had attended services before. i guess they just don't like people they can't push around. so, if you like being interrogated and pushed around, i recommend Mr Katz and his cronies. if you'd prefer to worship in peace, this may not be the place for you. i did receive an apology from Mr. Brodkin, the "rabbi", but he should know that he cannot apologize for the behaviour of others, only for not being a better leader. i am still waiting to here from these men, having provided my contact info to Mr.Brodkin. big egos are hard to overcome i guess. or they just don't care.
